By Song Jingwoo From end of September 2025, Malaysia will implement a targeted subsidy mechanism for RON95 petrol.
Malaysian citizens who verify with their MyKad will enjoy the subsidised price of RM1.99/L,
while others must pay the market rate of RM2.50/L.
The policy is expected to benefit over 85% of Malaysians, while saving the government up to RM8 billion annually.

3️⃣ Insert your MyKad for verification
4️⃣ System will display:
- Blue ✅ = Eligible
- Red ❌ = Monthly quota used up
- No result ⚠️ = Not eligible
5️⃣ Select Create Order
6️⃣ Choose Pump number, fuel amount & payment method (Cash / Credit Card)
7️⃣ Tap Confirm Order
8️⃣ System prints a receipt 🧾 → take it to the pump and refuel
- Non-citizens & those without MyKad verification must pay RM2.50/L
- Check your MyKad chip beforehand to avoid issues
- No daily limit, but usage will be recorded to prevent abuse
- Different quotas for normal drivers vs e-hailing/p-hailing drivers
- Ensures subsidies only go to eligible citizens
- Reduces government spending on fuel subsidies
- Promotes fairness in resource allocation
- Damaged MyKad chips may block access to subsidy
- Verification process could slow down refuelling
- Public dissatisfaction if quotas are too low
